friendGroup is a private, invite-only web application for a close friend group of 12 members. It tracks birthdays, organizes movie nights, shares memes, and runs a "Funniest Person" leaderboard. This is a personal hobby project, not a commercial business.
Closed membership: Only pre-approved, invited members can create accounts. New users cannot self-register. All SMS recipients are known, real individuals who have explicitly joined the group.

Users opt in to SMS notifications during account onboarding — a 4-step wizard every new member completes before accessing the app. Step 3 is the SMS consent screen where users actively check an unchecked-by-default checkbox. Consent is optional and not required to use the app.
Because friendGroup is invite-only and onboarding requires authentication, the consent UI is behind a login wall. The video walkthrough and screenshots below show the exact experience authenticated members see.

The "Enable SMS Notifications" checkbox is unchecked by default. Users must actively check it to opt in. Sub-options are disabled until the master toggle is enabled. Consent is not required to use friendGroup.
The following disclosure is displayed directly below the notification toggles on Step 3 of onboarding. Users see this before completing setup:

When a user replies STOP, our webhook handler immediately disables all SMS notifications and sends a confirmation message. Users can re-subscribe by replying START or re-enabling in settings.
